Endangered

There are only 950 wild camels left in Mongolia and China. That's few! Wild camels are threatened with extinction. The habitat is used for industry. The grasslands are used for people's livestock. As a result, there is less and less land for wild camels.

Desert parade

But alongside this, people all over the world keep many tame camels. Actually, I am a different species from the wild camel. We are mainly used as a transport animal through the desert. We walk in caravan, with a male in front. Because he is the highest in rank, the rest follow him. When a camel walks, it rocks quite a bit. If you sit on my back, you might get a little "seasick"!
