At high altitude

Pied imperial pigeons almost never come to the ground. They roost in the tops of trees. Sometimes up to 60 meters high. They also eat at the top of the trees. Every day they fly great distances in search of ripe fruit.

Big bite

Pied imperial pigeons eat almost only fruit. Of many fruits, they swallow the kernels in one sitting. The large seeds they spit out later. The pulp is then removed in the crop (a kind of pre-stomach). Smaller seeds pass through the stomach and intestines and are finally defecated.
