Good parents

A male and female snowy owl stay together throughout their lives. Once the young have hatched, the male searches for food and brings it to the nest. The female feeds the young. After 14 to 26 days, the young leave the nest, but continue to be fed by the parents for 5 to 7 weeks. When they are big enough, they go out on their own to find food.

Shelter color

A snowy owl has a very good camouflage color. Here in the Netherlands it may stand out among the trees, but in the area where it lives in the wild its white color is perfect. After all, in the far north there is snow for much of the year. So with his white feathers he is well camouflaged for his enemies as well as for his prey.
