In summer, Alpine ibex mainly eat grass. They can eat about twenty kilograms a day. In winter it is more difficult to find food. They will dig through the snow to find mosses and herbs. They will also eat plants like juniper and boxwood. Because it is so hard to find enough food, Alpine ibex can sometimes lose half of their weight during the winter.
