Help gorillas by turning in your old cell phone

The habitat of gorillas in the African rainforests is shrinking. This is caused by the construction of coltan mines, where the raw material coltan is obtained. This raw material is used to make cell phones. By donating your phone at Eindhoven Zoo the coltan from your mobile phone is recycled and you help the gorillas in the wild. You also support the conservation projects of the Stichting Wildlife with the proceeds.

You help in two ways:

When you hand in your phone at the Eindhoven Zoo reception desk you help animals in 2 ways. First, Stichting Wildlife receives an amount for every cell phone that is handed in. With this, the Foundation supports as many as 30 conservation projects worldwide.

Secondly, the raw materials from each phone are recycled. This helps gorillas in the wild. Cell phones are made with raw materials such as gold and coltan. In order to obtain these raw materials, mines and roads have to be built which means that the rain forests of Africa are cut down. A lot of animals lose part of their habitat and because of the better accessibility of the rainforest, they are more likely to become victims of poaching.

By recycling cell phones, coltan and gold are reused, therefore no new mines need to be built. Take a good look in your drawer, under your bed or in the attic and turn in your old phones. Thank you very much for your help!
