Rhinoceros Day at Eindhoven Zoo

On Saturday, September 26 , a visit to the zoo is extra special. Together with the Wildlife Foundation, Eindhoven Zoo is dedicating this day to the rhino. Proceeds from the day’s activities will be donated to the International Rhino Foundation and its efforts to protect Indian rhinos. Here’s what you can do on Rhino Day

Watch the rhinos during a feeding presentation

On Rhino Day, there are two times when you can get a particularly good look at the rhinos:

1:00 p.m.: During the daily presentation, a zookeeper will share more about the animals and their care.

3:00 p.m.: During this special session, the rhinos are fed and given enrichment activities. It’s a great opportunity to see the animals up close and learn more about their natural behavior.

Go behind the scenes

Want to discover even more? Then sign up for a behind-the-scenes tour of the rhino enclosure. During this tour, you’ll get a glimpse of areas that are normally off-limits to visitors.

There are two tours, at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., with a fee of €6.00 for adults and €3.00 for children.

Space is limited, so be sure to register in advance at the Wildlife Foundation booth.

Discover, play, and learn about rhinos

There’s plenty to do all day long around the rhino enclosure. Stop by the Stichting Wildlife booth and join in on various activities for all ages.

Coloring Contest

There’s plenty to do for young visitors! Pick up a special rhino coloring page at the Stichting Wildlife booth, color it as beautifully as you can, and turn it in at the booth.

In the afternoon, we’ll pick a winner from all the submitted coloring pages. The winner will go home with a great prize!

Explore and Play at the Wildlife Foundation Booth

You’ll find the Stichting Wildlife booth at the Terras van de Waterplaats, right near the rhino enclosure. Here, you can learn more about rhinos and their conservation. You can also test your knowledge with the memory game and the rebus puzzle, and discover how you can contribute to nature conservation.

Rhinoceros Ring Toss

How good is your aim? Test your dexterity with rhino ring toss in the barn. A fun challenge for all visitors!

Dung Stacking

Learn more about rhinos in a playful way and take on the challenge. Can you stack the most droppings and build the tallest pile?

Why do rhinos need protection?

In the wild, rhinos are threatened by poaching and habitat loss, among other things. That is why protecting wild rhinos is incredibly important.

Eindhoven Zoo and the Wildlife Foundation support the International Rhino Foundation (IRF). This organization is dedicated to the conservation of rhinos in the wild worldwide. It does this by, among other things, relocating rhinos to suitable new habitats, improving security in nature reserves, and strengthening legislation and enforcement related to nature conservation.

The IRF also works with local communities. Collaboration is key to ensuring the long-term protection of rhinos and their habitats.
