From big to small
There are around 3,500 different species of stick insects in the world. They live on every continent, except for Antarctica. The smallest stick insects are only 1.5 centimetres. The largest species can grow up to 50 centimetres long. All stick insects have one thing in common: they are very well camouflaged.

No males needed
Indian stick insect females don’t need a male to lay eggs. We call this way of reproducing “parthenogenesis”. The young that hatch from the eggs are all females. It is not really known if males even exist in the wild.
